Law firm Senior Legal Administrative Assistant

I first met Alan Parver, a senior partner at Powell, Goldstein, back in 1989. Alan specialized in healthcare public policy and advocacy and worked closely with a number of national and global trade associations and corporate clients. At the time, he was on a fast-track to become managing partner of the DC office. We worked together at Powell, Goldstein until the birth of my son in 1994 and then later in life he asked me to join his team at Polsinelli and Arnall Golden Gregory. Alan was a true leader, and would constantly challenge me to grow beyond the role of "administrative assistant" to become more involved with his practice and clients. A true mentor, he had the insight to look deeper into his people and inspire them to grow and expand to maximize their talents and abilities. For me? He made it possible to write, and writing is something I love to do. He put me in charge of the firm's newsletter on health reform and health policy issues. We had a readership of greater than 3,000 people each week. One reader invited me to write an article for their journal for clinical investigators. I was thrilled! No wonder that I followed him... His one demand was that I always perform at the highest level of my capabilities. He taught me the importance of excellence in all that I do, and it is a lesson that I carry with me every moment of the day... Because of him, I was responsible for many things that fell beyond the realm of "assistant", and for that I am eternally grateful. So while I continued to support him in the traditional role of "assistant," I also helped him manage his practice and together we grew a great success story. Alan retired in 2016, and I while I am very happy for him in his hard-earned retirement, I miss him in my daily life... He was a true leader of the rarest form -- someone who selflessly and effortlessly inspired his people to thrive in their talents and reach for the stars. It is no wonder why I spent most of my life having the honor of saying that I was his assistant.

As DC Office Administrator, I was responsible for the support of four busy C-Level executives focused exclusively on global, federal and state-level advocacy efforts. We worked closely with our CEO and Executive Leadership Team to build highly productive relationships and results with government officials and lawmakers at the highest level. I was responsible for the daily operations of the Global Government Affairs office, ensuring that my people were where they needed to be, on-time and equipped with the tools they needed for success. Complicated meeting and event planning, extensive global and domestic travel, and efficient office management were a constant priority for me, Under my watch, my people were highly successful. I kept the "trains running on time" all the time and every time. No task was too small or too complicated. I also managed the activities of the Peabody Political Action Committee, ensuring that our filings complied with the law and were on time, every time. I also was responsible for overseeing the move of our offices in April and in the process, orchestrated the effort to upgrade our entire operating system to the most state-of-the-art computer and videoconferencing systems available at the time. The move resulted in very significant savings to the company while at the same time expanding our office space. Shortly after the move, I was responsible first responder CPR and first aid training for everyone in the office. Upon completion, everyone is now certified to act as a first responder in nearly every imaginable adverse event. My time at Peabody was an extemely rewarding and gratifiying experience.
